HISTORY 

Lawrence S. Irene
Larry has over 25 years experience in the health care industry. A graduate of St John’s University School of Pharmacy, he is a registered pharmacist and an active member of ASCP.

Larry started his pharmacy career well before college by helping his father, Sandy, build their family owned business, CompuPharm, into one of the nations' largest privately owned Long Term Care Pharmacy. Larry was responsible for all contracting and purchasing activities for this business and was successful at educating manufacturers and establishing contracts for pharmaceutical products that were previously never discounted to this industry. His triumphs came by way of trending product utilization and the ability to prove market share shifts through proprietary software tracking systems developed under his direction.

Larry is also Co-Founder of Managed Health Care Associates, Inc. (MHA). In 1989, he established MHA contracts with the manufacturers and quickly grew this organization into the largest LTC GPO in the country. This success came by way of developing and offering the industry proprietary software systems to effectively assist the purchasing managers of their customer base. After selling half the company in 1998 to a private equity firm, Larry retired his active role as CEO in 2001. The balance of his equity in the company was sold in mid 2004.  

Robert Irene
Robert has over 25 years experience in the health care industry. A graduate of St John’s University School of Pharmacy, he is a registered pharmacist and an active member of ASCP.

Robert started his business career by helping his father, Sandy and brother Larry, build their family owned business, CompuPharm into one of the nations largest privately owned Long Term Care Pharmacies. Robert was responsible for the daily operations while also establishing a strong organization of key employees and department heads who would ultimately support the growth of the company in an efficient and profitably manner. As President of the company, Robert’s responsibilities also included accounting, establishing new locations, negotiating leases, and acquisitions.

After retiring from CompuPharm in 1993, Robert joined the full time operations of Managed Health Care Associates, Inc. (MHA) and assumed the active role of President of the company. Utilizing the skills he acquired during his years at CompuPharm, Robert helped Larry and Sandy establish separate business departments, acquire new office space, hire and train key employee’s from which MHA expanded and grew efficiently. After selling half the company in 1998 to a private equity firm, Robert retired his active role as President and Vice Chairman in 2001. The balance of his equity in the company was sold in mid 2004.  

Sandy Irene
Sandy has over 45 years experience in the health care industry. A graduate from St. John’s University School of Pharmacy, he is a registered pharmacist and a founding member of ASCP.

Sandy has owned numerous highly successful pharmacy and health care service business during his pharmacy career. Starting in the retail pharmacy sector, his career later took him into the specialized outside service business of the long term care industry. In 1979, he acquired Automated Pharmaceutical Services, a struggling long term care pharmacy serving 3,000 nursing home and State Institution residents with all their prescription needs. He immediately changed the name to CompuPharm and in 14 years grew that company from one location in New Jersey to over 10 pharmacies in 7 states. All combined, CompuPharm delivered prescriptions to over 60,000 patients daily and employed nearly 800 pharmacists, technicians and support personnel.

This company was sold in 1993 and became the foundation of NeighborCare, one of the nations largest LTC providers. Sandy also served as Co-Founder and Chairman of Managed Health Care Associates, Inc. (MHA), a group purchasing organization founded in 1989 to service the specialized purchasing needs of the Long Term Care industry. After selling half the company in 1998 to a private equity firm, Sandy retired his active role as Chairman in 2001. The balance of his equity in the company was sold in mid 2004.
